34 Basic text: Greetings

 Salam!

Greetings are an important aspect of social interactions in the Middle East and play a significant role in building and maintaining relationships. In many Middle Eastern cultures, greetings involve physical gestures such as shaking hands, as well as verbal expressions such as saying “peace be upon you”. These customs help to establish a sense of respect and familiarity between individuals and are an essential part of daily life in the region. In the Middle East, some people may abstain from shaking hands with members of the opposite gender for religious reasons, as physical contact with nonmarried members of the opposite sex may be considered inappropriate or forbidden in Islam.
